LG ELECTRONICS AGREES WI-FI 6 PATENT LICENSE DEAL WITH WILUS
SEOUL – November 4: LG Electronics has become the latest company to agree a deal giving it access to the Wi-Fi 6 standards essential patents (SEPs) owned by South Korean R&D company Wilus Inc.
The agreement was reached amicably. It follows another deal signed with Lenovo in May. Many other prominent companies have licenses to the Wilus SEPs through the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool. These include Cisco, Acer and Netgear. Wilus has invented key technologies related to wireless communications and played an active role in the IEEE 802.11ax standardization process. It makes its Wi-Fi 6 SEPs available to license on a FRAND basis, both bilaterally and through the Sisvel pool.
“We are proud to add LG Electronics, a global leader in Wi-Fi technology, to our ranks of licensees,” says Wilus CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak. “This agreement underscores the value of our Wi-Fi 6 innovations and the fairness of our licensing terms. Our sustained investment in R&D and innovation would not be possible without the royalties generated by deals like this.”
